WELLNESS WORKSHOPS

Our Wellness Workshops are an opportunity for you to try out and sample different ways of managing your wellness.
There are many ways in which people gain benefits for their mental and physical wellbeing.
These workshops are one off sessions where people can come along and just give something a go.
Upcoming Wellness Workshops are: -
- Laughter – 5th June – presenter to be confirmed
When did you last really laugh? Laughter is a wonderful therapy all of its own and when you laugh you enjoy both physical and emotional benefits. You can’t feel anxious, depressed, sad, guilty or ashamed when you’re laughing, it just overtakes you. Come and have some fun!
- Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) 19th June – with Kate Jones
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a simple process involving light tapping of a few familiar calming-down sites around the face and upper body. Over the past ten years EFT has been used for healing and self-help, in major disasters, emergency wards and war torn countries. Come and learn how you can use EFT to improve your health, wellbeing, and happiness every single day.
- Reflexology – 3rd July, Michelle Withers, Reflexologist
When we are stressed our body's defences break down and we become more susceptible to illness and disease. Reflexology reduces stress by generating deep tranquil relaxation, helping the body balance itself and allowing healing energy to flow. Among the benefits attributed to reflexology are improved circulation, stimulated nerve and increased energy. Come along and find out for yourself.
- Fun with Clay – 17th July, Debbie Green (to be confirmed)
Clay is such a delightfully hands on, tactile substance. You’re giving yourself permission to play with clay. Clay leaves an imprint and feelings move through hands into clay making the invisible visible. In addition to touch, working with clay requires body movement. Touch and movement are interlinked.
- Massage for Wellbeing - 31st July, presenter to be confirmed
Massage has many wide-ranging benefits that affect both our bodies and our minds. Almost everyone can safely receive bodywork of one type or another. Amongst its many other benefits, massage increases body awareness so that any issues can be addressed before they get more serious in nature. And it feels great!
- Easy Yoga – 14th August, presenter to be confirmed
You've probably heard that yoga is good for you. Maybe you have even tried yoga and discovered that it makes you feel better. But what are the specific health benefits you can expect to enjoy from doing yoga regularly? Come and try a little easy yoga for yourself and learn more about these benefits.
Wellness Workshops are open for anyone to attend subject to availability of places.

Event - Speaker Topic: Anxiety Hoarding and Clutter (conditions apply - see here)
With Wendy Davie. Personal Productivity Strategist, Speaker and Author.
Saving stuff, in moderation, is usually considered normal. But this otherwise healthy impulse can go too far and develop into what some experts consider a clinical obsessive-compulsive disorder. Compulsive hoarding can’t be chalked up to eccentricity or a character flaw. It’s more serious and harder to control than that. Wendy Davie will describe the journey from a little clutter to compulsive hoarding and then look at what can be done to make positive change: -
· How does a little clutter get out of control?
· When does clutter become a fully-fledged hoarding problem?
· Why is hoarding a problem at all, what are the risks?
What can we do to reduce and ultimately stop hoarding and who can help with this?

The Science of Happiness.

What makes Australia Happy may not always make New Zealand happy, for example a win at netball or rugby (not that they're winning at rugby!) Nonetheless we still have enough in common with Australians to make a visit to this series of articles worthwhile. Some things associated with happiness will look familiar and others may surprise you. See more here.
The Centre for Clinical Interventions (AU) Resources and Workbooks.
If you suffer from anxiety or depression and are looking for specific information about different types of problems then their information packages, or InfoPax, may be relevant to you. The InfoPax consist of a number of modules that you can complete online, or you can save the modules to your computer and work through them onscreen in your own time. Beating The Blues: What is Beating the Blues?
.jpg)
Beating the Blues has 8 sessions which each last about 50 minutes. Beating the Blues is based on CBT, an effective, clinically-proven treatment for depression. As you go through the programme you will learn lots of things that will help you. But CBT is not just about receiving information – it's very important that you try to put into practice what you learn in every session. So after each session there are things for you to do and think about as you go about your life. These are not difficult and the more of this 'homework' you do the better you will feel. CBT is not an instant cure but it is much more long-lasting than drugs and other alternative treatments–precisely because it teaches you workable skills for life. Click here for more information.
